Religion
Our main focus in
"God's Time" is preparation for First Reconciliation
and First Communion. Our themes are We Believe, We Worship, We
Live, We Pray, and We Celebrate.
Also, once a week
we join the Third Grade to celebrate God's Time. We use the book
"Celebrate the Lectionary" to learn about the Sunday
readings through activities and lessons.

Math
In second grade Mathematics,
we really focus on memorizing our addition and subtraction facts
to 18. We then work on money, adding and subtracting 2 and 3-digit
numbers, and begin an exploration of multiplication and division.

Reading and Language
Arts
The second graders
read an assortment of stories through the year. Reading themes
from our anthologies are My Family, Friends and Neighbors; Nature
at your Door; Stretch Your Imagination; Life Long Ago; A Gift
of Tales; and Sharing our Lives.
We also participate
in the Accelerated Reader program, and we practice our Daily Oral
Language.
Pen pals from St.
Mary Magdalen School in Everett provide us with an opportunity
to write letters monthly. If all goes well, we meet our new friends
in the spring. Other writing opportunities come during our Writer's
Workshop.

Science
In science, we conduct
many experiments with our FOSS kits on Insects and Air and Weather.
In addition, we research dinosaurs and prepare written and oral
reports.

Social Studies
Our year in Social
Studies will revolve around "My Community" which includes
studies about our government, living in a community, past and
present, and people at work. A look at the world community comes
through our participation in the Passport Club here at school.
In class we take a closer look at Japan, South America, and Europe.

Specialists
Our specialist classes
include P.E. and music twice a week for the school year, a weekly
trip to the library for story time, library skills and book check-out,
and two classes a week in the computer lab for the second semester.
