St. Michael School
Music Program

General music classes at St. Michael School are held twice a week for 30 minutes. Students in grades Kindergarten through 5 develop a variety of progressive musical skills. Music notation and form are taught through the use of Orff instrumentation and methods. Fourth and fifth graders add to their knowledge by learning to play the recorder. Vocal technique and repertoire are developed as children prepare music for the Christmas and Spring programs, monthly all-school Masses, and various classroom activities and celebrations.

Middle school students sample three trimesters of a Survey of Music Literature course over a three-year cycle. The first trimester emphasizes music from the Middle Ages through the Classical Period. The second covers the Romantic and Contemporary Periods. The final year highlights the music of the United States.
